Yeah, so to anyone that is reading this - I understood most of it; I grasped the whole Matt, Nicholas, Jared thing, but what I really, really didn't get was what happend to Lucy on like the last page. I guess I don't really get what Jared did or why he did it, and what exactly what he did would do to Lucy. yeah that's pretty much it.
i liked these books but they confused me a little aswell, but im going to read them again soon so i'll get back to you with my views lol the end of the books lost me a little though :\
Byron had always been my favorite character from The Unseen series and I was upset when I read that he died in the car accident that Lucy was in. I always think to myself that if he was still alive, they would've been close together as a couple in a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship type of thing. As to the ending of the 4th book, I think that the Nicholas person that died is Jared and the Jared person that was talking to Lucy had been Nicholas the entire time. You might remember this quote he said to Lucy: "But you cannot know what you have...with a shapeshifter." or something like that. That might have been those exact words spoken by Nicholas who pretended to be Jared in order to make Lucy trust him more than anyone else.

I wrote this in a MySpace group and I think this might help answer your question.:

"Okay, here’s my opinion, but I could be wrong:

I think Jared is really Byron’s brother and Nicholas must be the one who stalked Lucy and killed Katherine along with other characters in the series. He’s the one who was killed at the end of Book 4 and Jared is the one who let Lucy go with him. I have a feeling that I might wanna ask Richie about this and see what she has to say but I need to figure out how to say it. I would be really appreciated if any of you who is reading this right now would like to help me.

Result for me in my opinion: Byron’s brother is Jared and the evil villain is Nicholas. Oh, and I was shocked that Matt was the "evil apprentice" now that I found out that he worked for Nicholas, Jared or whoever he was. I always thought that he was a good guy but in the end, I was completely pissed off when I learned that he lied to Lucy about everything! My God!
"
Thank you that is definatly something to thing about:)

On the Matt thing - I always didn't trust him. I don't know why, but when he showed up in the first book I was like ' there is just something fishy about that preist dude' then I continued to get frusterated and yell at her for the rest of the book because I didn't like matt... so when they finally confirmed my suspicions it was more of a 'Finally!' moment for me.
This is something that I posted on my myspace group as well... maybe it'll help:

"I’m thinking that all the bad things that happened to Lucy in this book were because of Nicholas (except in instances where Matt may have played a small role, like making certain items appear and disappear, etc). Nicholas killed Katherine, Angela, Wanda Carver, and Gran.
As far as the accident that Lucy and Byron were in, I’m not sure if that was caused by Nicholas or Jared. I would assume it was Nicholas because he was an evil bastard, but it could have very well been Jared because he wanted Byron to be a part of the Wetherly’s legacy.
I’m almost positive that it is Jared who nurses Lucy back to health and gives her his blood, because at the end, Nicholas is outraged when he realizes that Jared’s blood flows through Lucy’s veins, and that’s the only point where I can guess that it happened.

In short: Jared is the good brother. Nicholas is the bad brother. Matt is evil, but he has SOME redeeming qualities at the end. I was still disappointed in him, though.

And speaking of the end... I think that it was Nicholas who ultimately won. Although it appears that Jared wins at first, Lucy looks into his eyes at the very end after saying that she wants to go with him and notices that his eyes aren’t the amber color that they were before. So it is my interpretation that it wasn’t really Jared at the end. Nicholas (because he’s a shape shifter) made himself to look like Jared and therefore got Lucy to willingly go with him, just as he had planned. It seems to me that evil prevails in this novel.
But... I could be wrong."
I'm not gonna read any further than the head line..lol I just got done readint the first book..don't want to spoil the ending !! Love it so far !!
Almost done with the books.. I'm in the begining half of the 4th book. Just found out that the Jared she was hiding is not the real Jared ??? I have a suspician that he is really the killer becasue of the wound on his side that's healing and the killer that's talking about having been attacked and his wounds sounding simillar. I can't wait to see what happens !! Also I thought maybe the killer was a vampire because of all the blood draining he does...but now it seems like sometimes he's an animal... like a big wolf when he rammed into the car and some of the other ways she describes what he's doing, the animal prints inside the curch by jareds bed..so then I was thinking warewolf...but he also transformed into that man in the soup kitchen...so I'm not sure what he is. Will keep reading today at work !!
I can't wait until you're done :D
I kind of wish I still had some of her books to read for the first time. Oh well. Rereading them is still a good time :)
I finally finished it today ! I knew Matt had something to do with it but I didn't think he'd be working for the bad guy. But he wasn't bad because he tried to save her in the end. So byron had 2 brothers then.. Jared and Nicholas...I wasn't thinking that at all. I kind of didn't suspect nicholas of something because he seemed to obvious. And at the very end she was so sure she wanted jared to take her and then she kept trying to interupt him..I wonder if she wasn't changing her mind at the end. For a minute I thought It was really still going to be nicholas ...morphed into jared or something like that and he had won afterall. Maybe that is what happened and why she didn't want it at the end.. and he said she had to go willingly and ask for it and she did ask for it (thinking it was Jared) I wonder if Dakota landed up living at the end.. did they say? I kind of forgot about her. I felt bad for matt..eventhough he was the evil apprentice... during the conversation when they were calling him " the visitor" he seemed like he was not really liking what Nicholas was doing but he had to help him. In the end he did try to save Lucy so he must have had some good in him. I don't get why gran wanted her to free byron though...he was already a beast...they said not transformed yet or something... it's not like she could have saved him. OH...and about Matt... I was suspicious of him too from the begining when he said he'd leave the necklace at the altar incase someone came back for it and then it said he slipped it in his pocket.
He was turning Lucy into one of them.. shape shifter, warewolf...thing.

Yeah, thats when I started not trusting Matt-- I was kind of flaking back and forth through the whole scene prior to that on whether I should trust him or not, but when he took that neckless, I was like "alright, dirty preist:" or whatever :p

See I thought that, too. That it was Nicholas who ultimately won. When Lucy looks into Jared's eyes at the very end after saying that she wants to go with him she notes that his eyes aren’t the amber color that they were before. I'm glad you got that, too.

As for Dakota, I always got the feeling that she lived... although I'm not sure it ever said that. *shrug*
